This aforementioned “Aegis War” is referenced multiple times in the original game and the DLC offers a glimpse into the history of this war and how it played out. Yet, Malos is just one side of the coin his counterpart, Mythra, is given and linked to the Prince of Torna, Addam, who takes it on himself to destroy Malos and end the Aegis War for good. He is linked to Amalthus, the Preator of Indol, the one who found him in the World Tree but cannot control him. The evil Aegis Malos, with his god-like powers, is bent on destroying the world as it seems to be the will of his creator, the Architect. The world of Alrest is in dire straits, as the Aegis War takes its toll on the lands (respectively titans) the people are living on. Since the DLC is part of this rich story, I deliberately leave out certain aspects of the story that might ruin the experience for new gamers or returning gamers who haven’t picked up the DLC just yet.)

(Quick disclosure: Xenoblade Chronicles is an 80+ hour JRPG with a complex and emotional story that is hard to summarize without giving anything away. Let’s find out if Torna – The Golden Country is a worthy addition to the Xeno-series. That said, some of the iconic characters from the base game will make appearances since they are so-called “Blades” and have a much longer lifespan compared to humans. It is a prequel to the base game, yet stands on its own regarding its story since it plays 500 years before the original story of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The expansion is playable without owning the original game. You also get all the bonus DLC extras like rare Blade packs and quests via a download code. Torna – The Golden Country was released digitally on September 14 and also got a physical release (incl. The base game was released back on December 1, 2017, developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo. The Torna story-DLC concludes the announced DLC packs for the popular JRPG Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the Nintendo Switch.
